Lambda Iota Sigma Alumnae Chapter, Charter Members

December 5th, 2010

The “L.O.V.E.ly” Lambda Iota Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered December 5th 2010 by six determined women: Juanita Spicer, Janine Lanier, Timmeka Belcher, Lisa Blackshear, Tracy Beard and Tavia Beasley along with honorary charter member Jestine Mayberry.  With dedication and perseverance, these women set out to live the Sigma image through the motto "Living Our Vision Eloquently".

Since chartering this young chapter, Lambda Iota Sigma has doubled in size in less than one year as well as embracing inactive sisters back into the sorority fold.  During the  2011-2012 Sorority year, L.I.S. received 3rd place for Outstanding Alumnae Chapter among  all Southeast Region Alumnae Chapters.  The chapter has also won numerous awards such as Southeast Region Rhoer Club of the Year 2012-2013 and Mwanamujimu Elementary Essay Contest.

As a chapter, we have recognized and participated in the themes and goals of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.  We are known for service to the community especially among its youth. We continue to provide educational and social action opportunities for the community through programs such as the S.T.E.M. Youth Symposium, Soles for Souls initiative, March of Dimes, and the sponsorship of the Rhoer Club.
